Walking into the Light
Mark took this photograph (unbeknownst to me) as I walked into the ocean at the Amari Emerald Cove beach in Koh Chang. For me, it is perfectly symbolic of my experience of Thailand - its sometimes dark and troubled beauty, and yet the hope of light.
The temptation in the face of injustice and suffering and unnecessary tragedy is to let their darker gravitational pull diminish the power of beauty, of what is good. Staying in the light amidst the dark is a life-long soul challenge; Thailand was among the more profound experiences I have had reconciling the beauty and the cruelty of life.
It was, nonetheless, an experience I am deeply grateful for. Amira created the opportunity by going to Thailand, and she and Mark planned and facilitated the entire trip - I was just along for the ride.
I hope I say thank you enough to these two sweethearts.
